New Ubuntu font lands

ubuntu-fontSeen recently on OMG!Ubuntu this post piqued my interest:

“The new Ubuntu font that Canonical commissioned typeface designers Dalton Maag to develop for the Ubuntu operating system has landed in Ubuntu 10.10 for all users…..”    Trackback

So, I thought I’d try it in Lucid, there are packages on Launchpad to download.

I got the

ubuntu-font-family-sources_0.68+ufl.orig.tar.gz

file and extracted the .ttf files into my local fonts directory

/home/[username]/.fonts

(if .fonts isn’t there just create it)

This makes the new font available to all applications that your user can access.  If you would like to install the font system wide follow the instructions off the Ubuntu Wiki

The new font is nice and clean and easy to read on my laptop screen, it looks a little like this:

Ubuntu Font

Ubuntu just keeps getting better and better! Try it!
